Wednesday Musings...

Wednesday!  The middle of the week, wherein you look back on the first part of the week and think, "Huh, what happened to the week?"  And look ahead at the weekend and think "Oh, you are still SO far away..."  And, of course, the day in which you pause to do the Hodgepodge!  :-)

1. What is something that bothers you if it is not done perfectly?

When someone sings the National Anthem and messes it up.  I mean... REALLY!!!  Nothing more offensive - in my mind, it is a complete honor to be asked to sing our national anthem, and to do it and mess it up is an insult to our country and to the men and women who serve our flag each and every day.

2. What is one of your best childhood memories?

Playing in my playhouse in the backyard.  It was surrounded by giant sycamore trees and always smelled earthy, and my black labrador retriever, Molly, would come back with me and we would just lie in the sun.  It was an escape, even if it was only in the backyard.

3. Do you plan to watch the Royal Wedding and when was the last time you wore a hat?

Yes I do.  I remember as a little girl, my mom woke me up at 1:00 a.m. so we could watch it together.  I was in awe of all of the traditions, and the elegance of it all.

I also remember being very tired.

So, this time I shall watch it... but I shall celebrate the advances in technology and use my handy dandy DVR to record it, and then I shall enjoy it after a full night's rest and in the comfort of my home with a cup of coffee while the kidlettes are in school.

The last hat I wore was a couple of weeks ago and it was a knit ski hat because OH MY GOODNESS WAS IT COLD AT THE BASEBALL FIELD!!!!!  Come on, Idaho - it is almost MAY!

I don't remember the last time I wore a floppy fun hat...

4. Where do you fall in the birth order in your family? Do you think this has influenced your personality?

I am the first born, and oh yes, I definitely think this has influenced my personality.  I am quite driven, confident, an organizer of events, a leader, and I also carry a great sense of responsibility for my family.  On the downside, I also hold very high expectations for both myself and for those around me... I am in a constant battle over this.

5. Where do you think you spend most of your money?

A lot of our money goes to charity - our church, to missionaries, and to Habitat for Humanity.  The other goes to groceries and clothing my ever-growing children.  Oh, and car repairs... because my DH is deployed right now and that's what happens when he's gone... the car falls apart.  Sigh.

6. When you need to confront someone would you rather communicate in person, on the phone, by email or by letter? Why?

As a general rule, I dislike confrontation, and will generally only confront when there has been genuine wrong done.  Confronting friends and family is really hard and I am not very good about that.  But I definitely would not want to do it via email - way too impersonal, and too easy for them to either discard it and not respond, or respond quickly without thinking through the issues.  If I am confronting a business (or individual who has cheated me in a business deal... my family knows what I am talking about...) then I will write letters so that I have proof of what was said, and I will even fly across the country to confront said individuals in court.  Perhaps it is not confrontation I enjoy so much as holding sleaze-bag individuals accountable. Ahem.  So yes, I suppose my prefer method of confrontation would be in person...

7. Dodge ball, freeze tag, kickball or jump rope? You have to pick one.

Kickball!  There is nothing more satisfying than kicking a ball to kingdom come! :-)  I could use a good game right now...

8. Insert your own random thought here.

In reference to my housekeepers that I mentioned last week - all I can say is "WOW"  How good is it to know that, amidst the clutter that comes with three active children, my house is SO clean underneath!  These ladies were amazing - they even climbed on top of my kitchen counters to dust the tops of my cabinets!  Brought their own ladder to dust the tops of the doorways... wow... I highly recommend treating yourself to this type of cleaning (done by someone else, of course) once in a while... unfortunately my budget does not allow for this all the time... but, oh what bliss!  A treat to look forward to - especially when the rest of the week was so  difficult.  I think God definitely knew what I would need, as dreams were crushed not 24 hours later.  God is good... all the time...
