1. What news story are you following right now?
I've been following the story about the wildfire in Arizona, since it's where we went to college, married, and had our first child - and almost bought a home right where they were evacuating this week. I've also been following the story about the poor woman, an American citizen, who is imprisoned in Iran for being a Christian - she is pregnant, and has been told that immediately after giving birth she will be executed. I can't even imagine... on so many levels...
2. What's the last thing you wanted but didn't get?
Honestly? For my husband to get a job he really was excited about... sigh...
3. May 28th is National Hamburger Day...when did you last have a hamburger? Other than your own kitchen or BBQ grill, where is your favorite place to go for a hamburger? And for all you non-meat eaters out there...when you're invited to a cookout what is the one side dish you hope is on the menu?
On Sunday we went out for lunch after church and tried a local burger joint that my friend Sheryl had recommended - saying it was better than In-N-Out, which, if you live in California, is pretty much sacreligious! But anyway - it was good, the service was quick, and it wasn't over-priced. My favorite place to go, though, is any restaurant (NOT fast food - McGuires Irish Pub in pensacola, Florida serves INCREDIBLE burgers, btw) where they actually serve thick burgers, good quality beef, on a good bun (not too thick of bread) with fresh tomato, lettuce, ketchup, mayo, and good quality cheese. Yum. And now my stomach is growling.
4. How have your priorities changed over time?
As I've gotten older, and especially as my children have gotten older, I've realized just how valuable family time is... my priorities are different... our time with them under our roof is SO fast, and so fleeting, and we only have a few precious years with them, to teach them all they need to survive as adults... I'm no longer concerned with myself as much.
5. What's a favorite memory with your grandparents?
Going to lunch at Bullocks-Wilshire with my grandma and seeing the models show the latest fashions during lunch. Watching my grandfather develop his own pictures in his darkroom. Picking strawberries and radishes out of the garden of my other grandmother's back yard. Giving my (somewhat crotchety) step-grandfather an album of Sandi Patti singing traditional hymns, and he was so thrilled...
6. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being fantastic!), how good are you at multitasking? Share an example.
I'm about a 7 - definitely in my new job as church receptionist and family ministries administrator, I never know who will be on the next phone call, or who will walk in the door, or send me an email giving me new tasks to do. Just today, I had three people on hold - one who wanted info about an upcoming funeral, one who wanted to apply for a camp scholarship, and a senator who wanted information about our latest Mexico mission trip! Definitely multi-tasking!
7. How would you summarize your highs and lows for the month of May?
Oh my - what a month. Husband's job uncertain. Housing uncertain. Direction uncertain. And yet in the middle of it, the Holy Spirit reaching in and making us draw closer to each other, even when we, in our humanness, may want to draw away. Provision in ways we didn't expect... scary, with risks, but provision nonetheless... A roller coaster of highs and lows all. month. long.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
So - this has been a rough month. But you know what? Every morning, as I wake up, a different song is in my head. Now, I normally always have some song or another going through my head... but in this past month, I've come to believe that it is God singing to me - bringing to the surface that which my heart really needs to hear... I'm beginning to journal it, so in the midst of this difficult time, I can "hear" God speaking to me in a way that is sweet and personal, intended just for me.
What is God "singing" to you right now?
