Henry Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Wednesday nonsense!  :-)  Join Joyce here for the original questions if you so desire - after reading mine and leaving comments of course!

1. Summer's here-whoohoo! What's your favorite sight, sound, AND smell associated with summer?

Sight:  as a California girl I've got to say the beach!!  of course, in Idaho that's kinda hard to come by... so I"ll say that it's the transition of scarves and gloves in our front hallway basket to flip flops and sandals!

Sound:  the sound of childrens laughter as they run through sprinklers and run through the house asking for popsicles and lemonade stands

Smell:  The smell of coppertone suntan lotion, and anything grilling on the barbeque, and the smokiness of our firepit.

2. Fireflies or lightning bugs...what are they called in your neck of the woods?

Honestly I had never seen fireflies until we moved to the south - for some reason they just don't congregate in suburban LA... the only reason I knew they even existed was because I read Tom Sawyer and they were mentioned there, and also whenever I rode the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland and it was all misty and swampy they had artificial lightning bugs in the scenery.

*sound of crickets chirping*  Yes, it is possible to have a deprived childhood even in LA where your only contact with fireflies is at Disneyland.

Anyway... I was pretty darn excited to actually see them for real when we moved to the south, where I heard them called both.

3. What is something from the past week that reminded you of your childhood?

Well, seeing as how I am actually visiting my childhood home this week... plenty!  The house/furniture/etc has not changed in 30 years.  I'm not kidding.  My mom had several boxes for me to go through, of different dolls that my grandparents used to buy for me every time they traveled overseas.  Very fun, seeing them again and sharing them with my kids!

4. Define 'the good life'.

Oh goodness... being surrounded by those you love, at peace with your current life, job, family... knowing that you are doing the best you can with what you've got,and enjoying each and every moment to its fullest.

5. Tell us what we'd see if you took a snapshot of your desk/work space?

A cute mahogany wood secretary desk that my DH bought me for my birthday, where my laptop sits.  On top is a cute lamp, a Willow Creek figurine that my dear friend Martha gave me for my birthday, and a Scentsy warmer.

6. Peaches or watermelon...yes, you have to choose.

Peaches - perfectly ripe and juicy and still warm from the sun.  Delish.

7. Ever been skinny dippin'? Is that too much for the Wednesday Hodgepodge? Rest assured we won't need details...unless of course you feel you must but remember, this is a family friendly blog so keep it G rated.
Yes.  And lets just say, there are probably photos of me somewhere on the web by some white river rafters in the Grand Canyon. Oops! :-)

8. Insert your own random thought here.

i totally meant to post this video last week, in honor of Fathers Day. In my defense, I had just traveled from Idaho to California with three kids and a shaky minivan and, unbeknownst to me at the time, was about to go to Sea World and have two of my children come down with the stomach flu.  At Sea World.  Which we then "shared" with our good friends that we were staying with.  Oh joy.

So - here's a belated Dad video... even if you've already seen it, check it out again... just for laughs!

OK... scratch that... I'm at my parents house, which not only does not have wifi (gasp!) but has dial-up internet.  I'm not kidding.  They still have phones with CORDS on them attached to the wall.  Seriously... no wonder why I laughed out loud at question #3!  I'm back in the 80s here!  So, my parents computer will not let me post the video directly... so do the copy and paste thing... it really is worth it!
