It's Hodgepodge time! Keep in mind, I've been working crazy hours (inventory until 3 am, etc) and trying to get our family ready for a long road trip, so my creativity is a bit on the down side... but, it's not a Wednesday without Hodgepodge, so let us away, friends! Feel free to hop on over to Joyce's blog, where it all begins, to see what others are posting!
1. Are you a force to be reckoned with? In what way?
I'll admit, I don't like that phrase "a force to be reckoned with" because it brings to mind someone who is a bully, loud, aggressive, and feared. I don't think I'm like this. I'm pretty easy going for the most part, but
if I am dissatisfied with a service, or a product, or if I feel like I've been treated unfairly, I will definitely complain to management, post negative Yelp reviews, etc. And if it involves my kids - whoa baby, watch out - mama bear!
2. What are two things you love about the wintertime? Or, if love feels like too strong a word, what are two things you 'like' about winter?
I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of winter. I don't like bitter cold. But on the other hand, it was 85 degrees yesterday, and that just doesn't seem right either!
however - THIS was my view the other day...
I'm going to stop complaining now!
So, my favorite things about winter?
- wearing jeans
- the fact that spring comes after winter!
3. Pomegranate, kumquat, persimmon, kiwi, and guava are all fruits said to have health benefits, particularly during the winter months. Do you have a favorite on the list? Are there any on the list you haven't tried?
I don't know that I've ever had a persimmon - of the ones in this list, I think guava would be my favorite. (baked in a fluffy pastry is the best way to eat it, in my opinion! But does that negate the health factor?)
Growing up, the old lady next door to us had a huge kumquat tree that hung over our brick wall, and I remember sitting on that wall eating kumquats... what a strange little fruit!
4. I passed a local church yesterday and noticed they had this on their outdoor sign- 'When all else fails, do the right thing.' Your thoughts?
That statement seems a bit trite, as I think sometimes it is hard to know what that "right" thing is... but that's when you rely on prayer, your "gut instinct" and on the advice of other wise people to either affirm or disavow your decision.
5. Do you ski? According to one list I've seen, the top 5 ski destinations for 2014 are-St. Anton Austria, Whistler Canada, Cortina Italy, Tahoe USA, and Zermatt Switzerland. Of the five listed, which would you most like to visit? We can make skiing optional if that helps the non-skiers with their answer.
I'm not a big skiier - never really could get to the point where my inner monologue wasn't "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK! I'M GOING TO SKI OFF THE EDGE OF THIS MOUNTAIN AND BREAK EVERY BONE IN MY BODY!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAACK!"
And, I had my hip surgery last year, which kinda put skiing off the "activities I can do" list for a while!
However, I would LOVE to visit any of those places mentioned. I actually was a nanny up in Lake Tahoe during high school/college summers for one of the families I babysat for, and yes, it is gorgeous.
6. What's the last thing you looked for online? (Besides my blog!)
Since working the 3am shift a few days ago, I've had horrible knots in my neck and shoulders that I just can't get rid of, no matter how much tylenol/advil I take, sleeping on heating pads, etc. So yes, I was searching for a good massage deal. I don't really have time for a massage, or the money, but on the other hand, we've got a 15 hour car trip tomorrow, and if I don't get some pain relief now, I'm REALLY going to be in bad shape. Sigh. (Oh how I wish my friend Ellen was here - for many reasons, but right now it's because she gives AWESOME neck rubs... miss you friend!)
7. What saying, slogan, quote, or motto have you seen lately that inspires you for the new year?
"Whatever you are complaining about, someone else is wishing for" - puts it into perspective whenever we complain about silly things.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Wish us luck as we drive from southern California to Colorado tomorrow! We are going for a friend's wedding, and my little C will get to see his best friend! It's going to be a LONG drive... 15 hours one way... but as a plus, on the way home we are going to swing up to Salt Lake City and see my in-laws and stay the night, which will be wonderful! Prayers for safety, for rest, and for extra blessings are certainly appreciated! (And the reason why we aren't flying is because we are bringing the kiddos, and 5 tickets was just WAY too expensive for us right now. Although right now flying is sounding SO much better... sigh...)
