1. Summertime is a season of reunions, weddings, and other family celebrations and gatherings...are any of the above on your calendar in the next two months?
Nothing official, just a few visit here and there throughout this summer- visits with my bro/sis-in-laws, in-laws, parentals... fun stuff!
2. June is National Iced Tea Month...are you an iced tea drinker? If so, how do you like yours (sweet, flavored, etc)?
I can take or leave iced tea - I'll admit, I never cared for it much growing up, and then when I moved to Mississippi with the Air Force and they offered me "sweet or unsweet" tea, I thought my lips would be puckered for a MONTH after requesting the "sweet" tea, having NO idea what I was actually requesting! After 10 years in the south, I did develop a taste for sweet tea - Chick-fil-a and Bojangles have the best, by the way - and so now that we are back west, I can't stand the regular tea they serve here and have to add sugar! Or flavored - peach and mango are my favorites - yum!!
3. When were you last nervous? Looking back, was the 'event' actually nerve-worthy?
The last time I was nervous was probably this last Monday, when our Vacation Bible School kicked off - this is a new church to me, and I'm one of the VBS leaders, so there was all kinds of uncertainty as to how it is run... but of course, it all went fine! A certain amount of chaos is always expected during VBS week - and as long as you are prepared for it, it's all good!
We have a fun theme this year - Kingdom Rock - and I got to design the castle and drawbridge decorations - I've never done a drawbridge before, and I think it turned out really good, and was SO fun!!
4. The bristle toothbrush was invented in China on June 26, 1498...not sure how that date was pinned down so precisely but, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being sick to your stomach and 1 being not at all, how nervous do you feel when you're headed to the dentist? Do you see your dentist twice a year?
I don't mind going to the dentist, I just hate the "You need to floss" lecture every 6 months! But that's my own fault. I hate getting fillings... blech.
5. What's making news in your town this week?
In our town, it's the closing of the San Onofre nuclear plant. I don't know much about it (we just moved here a few months ago after all)
6. Curtains, drapes, blinds...your window treatment of choice? Are there any bare windows in your house? Is that by choice or because you haven't gotten around to covering them?
As we have moved every two years for the last 15 years, I have curtains in every shape and size... and they rarely fit from one house to another. In our current home, the owners have beautiful shutters on all of the upstairs windows, and plantation blinds on all of the downstairs windows. They also have custom made curtains in the dining room that match the stained glass. I love the window coverings in this house!
7. Summertime is officially here (in the Northern hemisphere anyway)...what one song is a must-have on your summer playlist?
It is a toss up between this one...
and this one...
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I don't know why i'm sharing this... but yesterday was our first day of Vacation Bible school. As I was backstage, getting ready to start the morning assembly, wearing my crown and golden cape, i turned around and a sweet little toddler girl walked around the corner. As she saw me, she stopped, mouth wide open, and gasped "Hi!!!" she truly thought I was a princess... it was precious. Ever since then she has come up to me with a cute chubby hand wave during each assembly, and this afternoon gave me the hugest tightest hug... oh, how I miss the sweet innocence of a toddler who wants nothing more than to be a princess! Suffice it to say, sometimes the most heart-touching moments of VBS can come in simply the wide eyed gaze and sweet hug of a chubby toddler!
