OK - here's my confession of the week... of the whole Hodgepodge, the part I dread the most is this part - the intro! Probably because I"m not really a night person (as my high school bffs can attest to!) and my witty creativity is, well, just not there after 8 pm. What can I say... it is for this reason (the non-night-owl reason, that is... not the lack of creativity) that my high school BFFs would freeze my bra if I fell asleep first during a sleep over. Which is probably why I get nervous around those water gel bras at Victoria's Secret. Feels way too similar to the clamminess of defrosting bras. They have scarred me for life.
And hey, what do you know... I just wrote a (somewhat entertaining) intro! Or, entertaining to me, at least. Which is what normally happens around here after 8 pm - I think I'm HILARIOUS! :-) Now that I have thoroughly confused you with stories of frozen bras and such... lets hodgepodge!
1. April 15th is the deadline for Americans to file their state and federal income tax returns. What's a job you do on a regular basis that could be described as 'taxing'?
Changing sheets - especially on my son's loft bunk bed. For the record, I KNEW when we bought it that I would hate changing sheets on that thing. And I was right. At least now he is old enough to change his own sheets. Not that he does... he is 15, after all, and would gladly sleep in the same sheets all year long if I let him. ;-)
2. I'm participating in the April A-Z blog challenge, and the Hodgepodge happens to fall on Day O this week. In keeping with that theme...olives, onions, oysters, okra...of the foods mentioned, what's your favorite O food?
Oh my goodness, I just came from a military spouse's meeting and we were talking about the different foods we become accustomed to as we move around the world - and one of the things we talked about was okra! It really is good fried! But I had NO idea what it was when we first moved to Mississippi - actually, I truly didn't recognize anything on the menu at all.
But in all honesty, my favorite "O" food (that was NOT mentioned because surely it would be everyone's favorite) would have to be OREOS! (twisted off, the dry part eaten first, frosting licked off, and then finished)
3. What is something memorable you experienced as a child that your own children (or future children/nieces/nephews) will not get to experience?
Having to wait for the radio to play a favorite song, having to record music off of the radio and getting mad when the radio d.j. would talk over the intro song, playing music on a record player and forever having a song imbedded in your mind with the "skip" from a broken record. (The entire soundtrack to Mary Poppins has skips in my mind!)
4. Term limits for our elected officials...your thoughts?
So obviously Joyce has bugged our house and has been listening to our conversations, since we were JUST discussing this with our teenager last night! Too funny. Yes, I do believe that there should be term limits - it is not good for leaders to have too much influence for too long.
5. On April 18th, 1775, Paul Revere made his famous 'midnight ride'...when did you last make a midnight ride? Perhaps the fate of a nation wasn't hanging in the balance, but tell us where you were headed anyway.
The last midnight ride I made was when my mom collapsed and was taken to the hospital a couple of weeks ago. I threw a bag together and was in the car on my way up there around midnight.
6. What would freak you out more...a mouse running across your floor or a big fat hairy spider?
Mouse. Bar none. The kids still tell the story of a mouse jumping out of a cereal box years ago and I jumped up on the kitchen table screaming. I. Don't. Do. Rodents.
7. I love it when people ask me________________________?
For my i.d. when I buy alcohol.
If I've lost weight.
That I look much too young to have a teenager.
What my dreams are.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
This YouTube channel is hilarious - my kids roll, they are laughing so hard! So creative... enjoy your laugh for the day! (This one is entitled "Doggy wants a kitty!")
