1. What is one piece of advice you would give a 'just turning' 21- year old adult?
Don't be in such a hurry to grow up - use this time to really discover who you are, what you believe, and what makes a true friend and a good mate. Don't waste time and energy on activities that will hurt you for the rest of your life. And stay close to God - don't abandon Him just because you want to rebel. That is the one decision that will indeed scar you for life.
2. Besides cooler weather (or warmer weather, depending on your hemisphere) what is one thing you are looking forward to this fall?
My husband coming home from Afghanistan!!!
3. What sound lulls you to sleep?
The soft pitter patter of rain on the roof, ocean waves on the shore, the hum of the car engine on a long drive... my hubs considered it his greatest triumph when he was getting his pilot's license and we went flying in his little Cessna and I relaxed enough to fall asleep!
4. September is National Preparedness Month...does your family have an emergency 'kit' and/or disaster plan in place?
When we lived in the South, we did have an emergency kit - you just never know when you are going to be without power and such with all those hurricanes and tornados around! And we had a disaster plan. But now that we are back west, we have become a little negligent in that area - except that the kids know where to go if there is a fire, and I bought a special ladder because we live in a two-story house and all the bedrooms are upstairs.
5. How has your blog changed since you started blogging? Or has it?
My blog used to have a lot more family pictures and news about our family, but since Facebook came around and blew that out of the water made it easier to share small things quickly, it has changed into more of a Weekly Hodgepodge location (just for fun!) and a place to write about more serious things when they are really pressing on my mind and I've just GOT to get them out there. I am also in the process of writing a book... it has been a long process, but I'm excited about it... so between that and my Facebook addiction conversations, my blog has fallen to the wayside a bit. HOWEVER - thanks to the Hodgepodge I have joined a fun little community and I love reading the "regulars" every week and commenting on their posts, and vice versa. It's like having a huge group of friends that you have never physically met but yet you can laugh together and pray together!
6. What's something you've recently learned to do on the computer?
Link a video onto my blog. Don't laugh. It takes figuring out!
7. Is a picture worth a thousand words? Elaborate.
Sometimes... I think a picture can mean different things to different people - we have this picture hanging in our living room and everyone who sees it stops and just stares at it. It is a very emotional piece, and needs no words.
8. Insert your own random here.
Whew - the car purchase is completed! And I love love love my new car... well, as much as I can love a minivan... but boy I am telling you that I am NOT buying a car all by myself again any time soon! What an exhausting, emotionally wringing, gut-sucking ordeal! I will say, though, that I was pretty darn proud of myself for doing all the research, test driving endless cars, and then when push came to shove, sticking by what I thought was a good and fair deal and walking out with what I wanted at the price I wanted! Military spouses... we are a tough breed!
However - I can't let you go without a good laugh... and yes, it's at my expense, but it's too funny not to share!
So, we travelled down to Salt Lake City this weekend for my mother-in-laws birthday and to visit my hubs' sick grandma. And the only thing between here and there is 500 miles of farmland and cattle ranches. Which means that my brand new shiny car was plastered with every insect in creation by the time we got home. So, once I got the kids in bed, I soaked the bugs in car wash solution and then scrubbed them off. As I was wiping them off, I noticed a HOLE in my front bumper! AUGH - darn rocks! Darn Interstate! WHY don't they just salt the roads in the winter instead of pouring gravel on them, leaving them to chip and dent every unsuspecting car that drives by? I haven't even owned my car a WEEK and it already has ROAD DAMAGE!!!!
My eldest son came out and I said "My car has it's first Boo-Boo... LOOK!" To which he answered, "Mom, those are the holes for the front license plate." silence... sounds of crickets chirping... then... Oh YEAH!!! Blessed relief! My car is still intact!
We all got a good laugh at that... hope you did too!
