So, it was Joyce's birthday yesterday (you know, the fun lady who makes this weekly Hodgepodge possible) Jump over to her blog to wish her a happy birthday if you so desire! She's a neat lady! And, for those of you who may be the first to my blog, welcome! And the "no drugged" part of today's title is NOT because I have an actual problem with such things, but last week I was fresh out of hip surgery and was, well, a bit loopy! Doing better this week... still sore of course, but better!
On to the Hodgepodge!!
1. What's the best and worst thing thing about growing older?
This is funny, because my Little C has been asking me recently "Mommy, is it fun to be a grown up?" to which I respond very truthfully, "Well, parts of it are!" :-)
Best: freedom to eat what I want when I want, to spend money and give money, to create a home that is truly "our" home, making decisions that will impact our futures together
Worst: losing ones I love, weighing the balance between the responsibilities of financial security and children's needs and personal desires, slower metabolisms, seeing my parents/grandparents/friends parents getting older
2. Autumn arrives this week in the Northern Hemisphere...what one thing do you love most about the fall season?
I love the crispness in the air, the chilly mornings, but without the bone-chilling wind that we get in the winter here. I also love the changing colors of the leaves, the smell of campfire smoke in the air.
3. Speaking of fall...pumpkin seems to be flavoring everything these days-are you a fan? What's your favorite pumpkin flavored food or beverage?
I dearly love the pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks (although this is a really good recipe for making your own if you want!) I also enjoy a good pumpkin chocolate chip muffin with my coffee! YUM!
4. Since we're on the subject of fall...what's the worst fall you've ever taken?
When I was in 8th grade, I fell down the concrete stairs of my jr high, which then resulted in two knee surgeries in high school. Ironically, this past March I was running down our stairs to go to the gym when my hip buckled beneath me, which resulted in my hip surgery last week. Me thinks perhaps stairs are not for me...
5. If you could own a prop from any film what would you choose?
Oh gosh... so many good ones come to mind... The Plantation home from Gone With the Wind :-) the bench from Forrest Gump, the lightsaber from Star Wars, the deLorean from Back to the Future, Wilson from Castaway... the whole Harry Potter ensemble - his Gryffindor cloak, glasses, and wand... just too cool. But of that list, I'd go with the first... because who wouldn't want a Southern plantation home? :-)
6. What's the most interesting word you've read or learned in the past week?
Um, did you SEE my intro? I've been in a pain killer narcotics-induced daze. The most interesting word has been Vitaril, the name of the pain killer the dr gave me... good grief.
7. When was the last time you locked yourself out of your house, car, or office? Was it a big deal?
On to the Hodgepodge!!

7. When was the last time you locked yourself out of your house, car, or office? Was it a big deal?
I locked myself out of my car at the orthodontist's office a couple of months ago - my car has keyless entry/lock, but when I leave my keys in my purse, and leave said purse in the car, and then manually lock it... well, yeah... luckily I had grabbed my phone and could call my hubby who just happened to be home (as in, not traveling for business) and could come and let me in to the car!
8. Insert random thought here...
My amazing mother-in-law is back for another few days of helping our family out while I recover from my surgery. My hubs has been awesome too - making the kids' lunches, making sure I get my meds on time, etc. But now my hubby is gone for a business conference, and I am definitely not up to handling the household on my own quite yet - I went to church the other day and came home and slept for two hours! So, here's a HUGE shout out to my mother-in-law... she has given SO much to us these past couple of years while my hubs was deployed, and now during my surgery... amazing. I love it. And I pray that I can someday do the same for my kids when they are married with kids and need extra help.
