Luck be a Lady Hodgepodge!

Hello friends!  Long day, long week, brain synapses running on empty... on to the Hodgepodge!!

1. Do you play games of luck/chance for money? Have you ever played bingo for money? Visited a casino?  Placed a bet on a horse? Bought a lottery ticket?

When we went to college in northern Arizona, we would get away for the weekend by driving to Laughlin, Nevada, which was only a few hours away, and was a lot cheaper of a place to stay than Vegas.  Recently we stayed overnight there, and wow... it certainly hasn't changed much!  Definitely attracts all kinds of people there, if you know what I mean!  But it was fun, just for old time's sake.

(There was one time I won $110 playing Let it Ride poker.  The next day my car broke down and cost $112 to fix.  As my dad said, The Lord giveth, and the the Lord taketh away!)

2.  Will you be preparing and/or dining on the traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage meal this St. Patrick's Day? Mashed-baked-hash browned-french fried...your favorite way to have potatoes?

No, I never had the traditional Irish meal on St Patricks Day - but it does sound yummy!  I like potatoes any way, not super picky, except that I don't particularly like making mashed potatoes.  SO much work and mess!

3. What's the last thing you felt 'green with envy' over?

Probably my good friend getting to go on a cruise that she had invited me to go on, but I couldn't, with the move and so much transition.  Sigh... maybe next time!

4.  What's at the end of your rainbow?

As long as we are exactly where God wants us to be, I'm good with it!

5. March 12th marks the anniversary of the death of Anne Frank (June 12, 1929-March, 1945).  Anne's diary detailing her time spent hiding from the Nazi's during the war ranks as one of the best selling books of all time.  Besides your blog, do you keep any sort of diary or journal?  Was this a habit you developed as a child or is journaling something new for you?

I kept journals all through jr high and high school, even through college a bit.  I've stopped journaling for myself, but rather journal in my "Mommy Journal" in which I write letters to my kids, record their funny sayings, make notes to remember when I'm a grandmother... etc.

6. What's an item in your home or closet that contains every color of the rainbow?
Right now, it's a vase of gorgeous dahlias that my friend Kendall sent me for my birthday last week!

7.  Write a limerick with you as the subject.  You can do it!!  Just remember this is a family friendly blog...don't make me get out my wooden spoon.

oh geez... this is going to be what prevents me from posting tonight, I can just see it...

Ok, here it goes...

There once was a gal from Nantucket...

nope, not clean enough...

There once was a lady named Sal
who was a God-loving, very sweet gal
Though she's traveled a lot
and enjoyed what she's got,
her best story is about an elk and a cow!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

OK - the elk and cow story.

To explain - I grew up in LA.  No, not Lower Alabama (like they used to assume, when we lived in Florida)  Los Angeles, California.  After living in suburban LA for 20 years, I moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where my husband and I would attend college and live for 6 years.  Having never lived anywhere but LA, this was a big change for me. And one of the biggest changes was hearing people talk about "Elk Season" - as in, they would close down the schools for the first day of hunting season.  I would see cars drive through town with elk strapped to their trucks.  Hooves sticking straight up in the air.  My partner teacher had her truck totaled when she hit an elk.  So, I figured that eventually i would see one!  And sure enough, my friends assured me that whenever we were driving, if I kept my eyes pealed, I would certainly see an elk, maybe even a herd.

So, one day we were driving out of town, and as my husband and I were chatting, I glanced on the side of the road and saw in the distance a giant herd of elk!  I screamed "LOOK!  LOOK!  ELK!  I FINALLY SEE ELK!!"

And my husband nearly drove OFF the side of the road as he busted up laughing and said "Honey, those elk say "MOO!"

A country girl I am not.  In my defense... I'm not quite as bad as these girls here...
