My sista' Holly texted the appropriate response: "Do I bring the hard stuff? Or will wine suffice?"
Luckily, I was one step ahead of her... having opened the bottle as soon as I wiped down the rainbow stickiness.
That being said... it's definitely blog time!
'Cause you really can't make this stuff up!
Keeping it real, people... it's what I do...
On to this week's Hodgepodge! :-)
1. How has your hometown changed since you were a kid? What has changed most about the neighborhood you grew up in?
How can I say this delicately? Because I am NOT racist. In any way shape or form. I'm just stating a very obvious fact that my hometown now more closely resembles Chinatown. All of the stores that I used to shop at now have signs written in Chinese on them. It is quite strange to me, to drive down the main streets and not recognize any of the businesses. The neighborhood I grew up in is mostly the same, but with some of the older homes being replaced with huge mansions and no yard. It's weird.
2. What song makes you laugh?
Oh my goodness - too many to choose from! So, I'll settle for two. Because, after the afternoon I've had... I just KNOW you will indulge me!
The first - just makes me laugh! And you just can't go wrong with VeggieTales!
The second - well, you just can't help but smile while watching it! :-)
I SO want to be one of these people - either the singers/dancers or the observers... LOVE it!
3. Are you a fan of Harry Potter? Read the books? Seen any/all of the movies? Will you be standing in line somewhere close to midnight later this week? For those of you playing along today who live outside the US or UK is Harry Potter a phenomenon in your part of the world?
I have a confession. I LOVE Harry Potter! I resisted it for quite a while - but then I was teaching 5th grade when the second book came out, and my husband bought it for me and said "You have to read it, because you have to know what your kids are reading." Which, come to think of it, is a really good adage for parenting as well. I haven't looked back since.
A Second confession: I have already SEEN the newest Harry Potter movie! I KNOW!!!!! It was released to several military bases who offered FREE viewing of it last weekend - so my eldest son and I went. It was very surreal and very security tight - with movie managers in black suits and military police with guns and very stern looks patrolling the aisles to be sure there weren't any illegal recordings of the movie being made.
And... the movie was good. Very good. 'Nuff said. :-)
4. If the truth hurts, will you tell a lie? Are we better off as a society in a world that allows no form of deception whatsoever?
Oh geez... to go from silly songs and Harry Potter to THIS??? Sigh... Joyce. what are you DOING to me???
I won't lie. I just can't. I am the oldest child, and therefore have a WAY exaggerated guilt complex. Ridiculous, really. But nope... I"d rather not say anything at all than lie. And yes, you can argue that to be silent is just as bad as deception... whatever. I think there are times and places for blatant honesty, and others for discretion... honestly, I've had too bizarre of a day to think this deeply at the moment.
5. What is your favorite 'sauteed in garlic and butter' food? Or garlic and olive oil if that makes you feel better.
Shrimp! YUM!!!!!
6. Attending any reunions this summer/year? High school? family? Other? Do these events stir up excitement or dread?
Ironically... this is the closest we have lived to either of our hometowns in over 15 years. And my husband's high school reunion is this August. 90 minutes from where we live now. And he... is in Afghanistan. So I am struggling with the "Do I, as loyal spouse, go to his reunion FOR him... try not to gloat in the "Ha HA, I got him!" sort of way... with a bunch of people I have only heard about by name over the past 20 years and answer the same bajillion questions about him and his siblings and his parents a billion times..." Or do I remain in peaceful annonymous oblivion. Hmmm...
My own 20 year (HOW is that possible???) reunion is this October. And no, I am glad to say I will not be attending, because that is EXACTLY the time when my hubby is supposed to be returning from Afghanistan - so I will be rocking my OWN reunion, if you know what I mean... thankyouverymuch! (blush!)
7. Lilac, hydrangea, peony...pick one.
Hydrangeas. I didn't used to like them. But then, I learned how they will change color depending on the soil they are planted in, and what nutrients are in the soil. And I love that analogy for life - wherever God plants you, adapt to your surroundings and BLOOM! And also, my bestest friend Erika gave me one for my birthday. And I lost her in a car accident a year later. So they are my favorite now. For many many reasons.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
I'm all random thoughted out. So I'll close on this note. Because... no matter what season you are in... this. is. just. awesome.
