Steak, seafood, and low blood pressure please!

Welcome to another week of fun!  Thanks for stopping by - this is a crazy week so I'll be off!  See you next Wednesday, friends! :-)

1. May is National Blood Pressure Month...what sends yours soaring, either literally or figuratively? What calms you down? When did you last have your bp checked?

Anyone who messes with my kids gets the mama bear with a roaring blood pressure!  Also, fighting for companies to stand behind their products - that gets me going too.  Prayer walks on the beach, a glass of good Chardonnay, and getting lost in a good book all calm me down.  I had my bp checked when I was at the dr a couple of weeks ago for my sinus infection.  Low as always!

2. You just found $1-what do you spend it on? How about 10$ 100?

Honestly, a random $1 would most likely get put into my pocket, where it would be forgotten and then go through the wash, where it would get re-discovered and then get put into the Missions Jar that i have in the laundry room - any spare change or bills found in the laundry automatically get put in there.  And then when our church is doing a special offering, it gets emptied and put into the offering plate!

The same goes for $10.  $100 would probably not get stuck in my pocket, but would get put into the bank account, where it would get spent any number of ways...

3. Mandatory labeling of genetically engineered (GE) food has been proposed, but not enacted in the US. How much attention do you give food labels before you buy? Are you in favor of labeling if it means an increase in food prices? Is this an issue you've been following and feel strongly about, or is this the first you've heard of the controversy?

I regularly check labels, and try to stay away from anything with corn syrup and artifical colorings.  I'm trying to buy more Fair Trade as well.  Because it really DOES make a difference.  And yes, I'm in favor of more complete labeling - I don't care if it increases food prices.  We deserve to know exactly what is in the food we buy.

4. May 15th marks the birthdate of Frank Baum, author of The Wizard of Oz. At this point in time, are you more in need of brains, courage, heart, or a trip back home? Explain.

Actually, I don't think I need any of those... I'm in a good place!  If I have to choose, I guess I'd say courage, so that I could move forward on the book I've been wanting to write!

5. "There's no place like home" is an oft repeated line from Baum's book. When was the last time you felt the truth of that statement?

When we drove across the United States, moving from Florida to Idaho... when we crossed into Arizona and I saw the red rock mesas, blue skies, and dustings of snow... my mother-in-law, who was in the car with me, looked at me and said "Wow, your smile... you're home, aren't you?"  Yep - I feel like I really made my home as an adult in Arizona... that's home to me!

6.  Steak...yes please or no thank you? What cut do you prefer and how do you like yours cooked? Sauce or no sauce? Besides your own kitchen, where's a place you like to go to get a great steak?

Steak - yes please!  I do enjoy a really good steak, good quality beef please, cooked medium!  No sauce, let the flavors of the meat speak for themselves... but I do like a slight marinade of either light teriyaki or Montreal Steak rub.  Yum!  Both my dad and my father-in-law can grill an awesome steak!

7. When was the last time you were in a genuine hurry?

Oh geez, with three kiddos i feel like there are times when it's nothing BUT hurry!  (But I wouldn't trade it for anything!)

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

This weekend my hubby and I are getting a weekend away!  We are flying up to Monterey, CA to attend Cooking for Solutions at the Monterey Bay Aquarium!  My two bro-in-laws and sis-in-laws will be there too (yep, utilizing our aquarium employee connections there!) My parents are coming down to watch the kiddos - thanks mom and dad!- and we are so looking forward to an elegant night out, and just time with family and 70 chefs and 60 wineries!  Woo hoo!!
